While perusing the old reading list, I came upon an article over at The Daily Signal that I felt was a worthwhile read.
It talks about newly appointed Senator Luther Strange; or as he’s known in Alabama as “Big Luther”, has introduced legislation to relieve some of the Federal funding from sanctuary cities that do not follow the law and transfer it to a budget for President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall.
“How many innocent American lives must be lost before security becomes the first priority of immigration?” Sen. Luther Strange, R-Ala., asked the audience at an event Thursday at The Heritage Foundation titled “Securing the Border and Protecting Our Communities.”
“How many criminal aliens have to be released shy of justice being served for the rule of law to be affirmed as the first priority of a functioning society?”
Strange’s legislation, introduced in May, would keep federal funds from being given to areas with sanctuary cities that fail to comply with the Department of Justice in following immigration law or who punish small businesses for entering to bid on Trump’s border wall.
My bill has two simple outcomes. Sanctuary jurisdictions can either follow the law or fund the wall. Failure to comply with federal immigration authorities and continued efforts to interfere with the lawful pursuit of border wall contracts by local businesses will be met with the loss of federal transportation and infrastructure grant funding. These funds will go towards the construction of our border wall.

You may not agree with all that Big Luther has done while in office; either now or when he served as State Attorney General, however…
There is no doubt that our border security is in desperate need of being fixed.. irregardless of what any bleeding-heart liberal may say.
And while I’m not totally against Federal funding of such a project, what Strange has proposed is not that unreasonable.
Instead of raising any taxes; old or new, start using the money that’s already being used to fund cities that limit their cooperation with the Federal government’s effort to enforce immigration law, and put it to a better use.
And just for good measure; when the wall is built, why not round up a few of those bleeding-heart Lib’s that keep saying we need open borders, put them on the other side and shut the gates. Let them see how long it takes for Mexico to show them how border security works.
